The Evolution of the Little Guys

As a mommy of 2 boys, I can attest they are just wired differently. The car obsession gene is not a myth. From about 9 months old both boys smiled from ear to ear when they saw a car, truck or construction equipment. All things boys.
Around 1.5-2 years old, they made the nature progression to trains. Thomas the Tank Engine, you fill a void that cars can't reach.
And now at 3, Superheroes are the answer. For now, Batman & Spiderman are the faves. Guess what Halloween costumes we're interested in!:)
After pumpkin picking, our 5 yr old friend introduced us to Star Wars. While a little advanced for a 3 yr old, he still liked it. (Although I'm not sure he fully understood what was going on in the 15 minutes we let him watch).

The Hazards of Apple Picking

September in NY...the days are cooler, kids go back to school & apple picking is open.

We headed out to NJ to Demarest Farms. We went with RJ's godparents & baby Olivia. The boys were so excited for the hayride. Once we got to the orchards, we searched for the perfect apple & taste tested all varieties (Empire, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, Gala, Fuji). Even little AQ enjoyed picking apples. It was the perfect day until...AQ pretended an apple was a baseball. He threw it at RJ's face & it hit him right on the bridge of his nose. After calming everyone down (mom included), we continued our perfect day.

Be careful of flying apples!

Project Runway for Toys

So my lastest role is playing Heidi Klum to our toys. Every so often I sift through everything & decide "who's in & who's out." I look for loose car wheels, broken helicopter propellers, etc b/c they are a choking hazard for a 1 yr old. And we can only have so many stuffed animals. Do we really need 5 teddy bears? No & the thought of dust mites totally skeeves me out. Of course there are those toys that I cannot get rid of (& luckily are still in good shape), the Cars characters, the John Deere tractors (yes we have more than 1), the Sesame Street gang & the stuffed shark.

Today's inspection took a new turn as I found lots of baby toys - rattles, baby wooden manipulatives, etc. AQ is no longer an infant so it is time to say good-bye to these things. Luckily FDH is going fishing with a friend who has an infant. A new home already!:)

Yearly Vacation Traditions

As a child, I spent every summer at my grandparents' ranch. It was the greatest & most carefree place in the world! My extended family (22 cousins) & I rode horses, hunted, ran around like banshees & enjoyed each others company & jokes. Out of the family trips those are my most valued memories. Now that I have my own children I want to give them similar memories to treasure. Nothing was more exciting than packing & anticipating the summer fun!
This new tradition will most likely be a beach destination or ski trip but as long as it's something we do every year. Memories that bring smiles to their faces. Since I'm an only child, I started throwing the idea out to my dearest friends. In this economy, it's hard to get them to commit though.
A few friends suggested MLK weekend in the Carribbean (beaches are the most kid friendly trips)...maybe Turks & Caicos, Bahamas or Grand Cayman. And who knows maybe we'll have more than 1 vacation tradition!

Sunny Days, Everything's A O.K.

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street

We're heading to Sesame Place this week. The boys are so excited. Probably more excited to drive in the "black truck."

Our other options were Hershey Park, Thomas the Train or the Crayola Factory. Our decision was based on what we heard through the grapevine...Hershey is for older kids (5 & up), Thomas isn't back until Sept & a 1 yr old at Crayola would be hard. The obvious winner was Sesame Place!!! We can't wait to see Elmo & Abby Cadabby!
